March, 2024 - FACT: those who have goals are 10 times more likely to succeed than those without goals
As our Year 11 and 12 students head towards their Term 1 assessment blocks, it is heartening to personally speak with many students over this term to plan their Individual Transition Plans post school. There are a number of ways to achieve success, and I am honored in my position as Instructional Leader Pathways and Partnerships to work with students and their families to target individual strengths and explore options to further study or work in the future. One thing that both universities and employers agree on, is that the student of the future needs to possess many skills, most importantly resilience, adaptability, self management and communication, to cope in a world that is complex and constantly changing.
If you’re in Year 12 this year, you may be starting to think about university. UAC has announced that applications open for entry from 2 April. Students will receive their UAC PIN on this date and will need to keep this in a secure place. Students will have until 30 September (Early Bird rates) to lodge their preferences for university. Other universities are publishing their Early Admission programs and dates. Early entry gives Year 12 students the chance to receive an offer to university before the HSC exams are finished. I will publish these in the next newsletter.
As students commence their exploration in pathways post school, I will be working with a number of universities, tertiary institutions, and external providers to assist students to make informed choices. My goal is to work with students to make the transition from St Aloysius College to the next phase of their careers as seamless as possible.
At St Aloysius College, we have many great partnerships with universities, colleges, and the community. Recently our students attended UOW Discovery Day. This was a great event, where students could get a taste of what university life is like. Students attended lectures in their area of interest and came away from this day with many ideas for their future.
Our Year 12 Hospitality students also visited The Blue Mountains Hotel School to explore a variety of degree programs in the Hospitality, Tourism and Business fields. In partnership with Torrens University, The Blue Mountains Hotel School provides some exciting pathways for students to study and to travel the world, gaining industry experience along the way. Students attended lectures and also participated in activities including Food & Beverage mocktail making, Front Office reception and Housekeeping activities.
St Aloysius College was also thrilled to recently host ex-students Laura Erceg (Dux, 2023) and Matthew Nunn (High Achiever, 2023) present scholarship opportunities during our THRIVE program. Both of these students are studying UTS Bachelor Accounting (Co-op Scholarship) which is valued up to $56,000, and includes a year of full time internship, overseas travel, and great career prospects. We have a large number of high achievers this year who are keen to apply for this scholarship. There are further details regarding this later in this newsletter.
There are a variety of valuable webinars and open days coming up for many universities. I encourage students and parents to participate in these so that they can receive the latest updates on courses and the admission process.
