Literacy
As students wrap up their novel study of War Horse, they have gained fascinating insights into the role of horses during World War I. To conclude the term, they are applying their knowledge by writing a persuasive piece on the topic, "Should horses have been used in WWI?" Over these final two weeks, they will draw on their understanding, expand their vocabulary, and refine their sentence structure to craft compelling arguments.
Grade 6 News
Maths
Our Grade 6 students have begun exploring the concept of area in mathematics. Through hands-on activities and problem-solving tasks, they are developing a strong understanding of how to calculate the space within different shapes and solving problems involving composite shapes. Their curiosity and engagement have been evident as they apply their knowledge to real world scenarios, making connections between mathematical concepts and everyday life.
Literacy
Throughout the term, students have enjoyed their novel study of Rivet Boy, delving into rich vocabulary such as summon, pursuing, juxtaposition, resolutely, inexplicably, and disheveled, among many others. Alongside expanding their vocabulary, they have also focused on enhancing their sentence level writing skills. This has included exploring how appositives can add emphasis and how modality words can strengthen meaning. Their engagement with the text and dedication to refining their writing skills have been evident, making for a rewarding and enriching term of learning.
I felt incredibly lucky to be welcomed back by so many enthusiastic students, eager with questions and sharing the most beautiful letters baby Wilhelmina and myself.
