Middle School News

It's hard to believe we are almost at the end of what has been an incredible Term 1! Ms Porter, Ms Collins and myself couldn't be more proud of our Middle School students for their work ethic and attitude towards school.

Year 3

NAPLAN

It is with immense pride that we congratulate our Year 3 students on what has been an outstanding NAPLAN season. The students completed  four tests - Writing; Reading; Conventions of Language; and Maths. It was with great resilience, enthusiasm and dedication that the students so successfully completed the assessments.

The photos below show our beautiful Year 3 students enjoying some fresh air after their NAPLAN.

A huge shoutout is needed for Miss Bulte, Mrs Stroud, Mrs Pennington, Jane, Karin, Sharon and  Stacey for all of their support through this time. Thank you!

Literacy

Despite a very busy week of NAPLAN, the Year 3 students have continued to engage fully in their Literacy curriculum. They have been reviewing common spelling patterns with words that contain the long sound 'o' sound made by digraphs including 'oa' and 'ow'. Additionally, the students have been comparing sentences and fragments depending on the use of a 'subject' (who or what) and a 'predicate' (a verb describing what the subject is doing).

Writing

In writing, the Year 3 students have been focusing on expanded sentences, as well as persuasive writing. They have been looking at the topic 'corporal punishment', based on events in Matilda. They have been introduced to notetaking skills and composing arguments based on pros and cons of the topic.

Maths

In Maths, the Year 3 students have finished their unit on Addition and Subtraction, where they looked at adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers through partitioning and mental reasoning. Through the commencement of their 'Time' unit, the students have been looking at formal units of measuring time. They have been using stop watched, identifying hours, minutes, seconds. To no surprise, the students were eager to extend themselves to miliseconds!

Year 4

Literacy

The Year 4 students have been reinforcing the concepts they learned in Year 3. In addition to practicing Spelling Mastery, they have been reviewing the role of the 'Bossy E' in words like "savE." They have also been exploring synonyms to enhance their vocabulary and make their writing more vibrant and expressive.

Writing

Throughout their Novel Study, the Year 4 students have been exploring techniques used for persuasive writing. To begin their persuasive pieces, they had to practice note taking. This included abbreviations such as eg., etc., &, +. Following on from this, they have been looking at Single Paragraph Outlines (SPOs) for effective structure of Persuasive writing. SPOs help us organise our work whilst making it coherent and easy to follow for the reader.

Maths

The students have successfully completed their topic of 'Time', where they had to differentiate between analog and digital clocks and read the time to the minute.

In Year 4, the students have moved into their 'Multiplication and Division' unit, using arrays as well as looking at the to operations as inverse.

New Learning Spaces

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that the Year 4 students have moved into their new learning spaces! The way in which the students have settled and composed themselves has been awe inspiring!

Another big shoutout to Ms Collins and Ms Porter for moving the Year 4 students into their new space seemlessly, commencing learning immediately.

Athletic's Day

It's safe to say we have some real pocket rockets in the Middle School. Dendy Ath's, watch out for the Sacred Heart Middle School!

Middle Year's Acievements

Well done to this beautiful girl on her achievements at Athletics, receiving 'Season Improver' award.

This superstar helped collect all of the abandoned balls at the end of the day. Not only that, he also helped pick up rubbish, all with a sense of humour!
