STEM – Term 1, Week 6&7
Week 6
Due to the Athletic Sports this week, only some classes got STEM. Each class had a Challenge Week. Preps created kites with brown paper bags. In their first STEM session, grade 1/2s looked at dinosaur toys and books to explore the external features of dinosaurs. In their second session, as well as grade 3/4 and grade 5/6, students used materials to create a paper plate marble maze.
Week 7
Preps learnt about the five needs of plants. They then decorated a paper cup that was filled with cotton wool (acting as soil) and grass seeds to see if these grow. In their second session, students created a paper plate marble maze.
1/2s explored dinosaur footprints, where they selected a footprint to create with Play-Doh. As part of ‘Relationships and Resilience’, these students created a paper plate rocking boat.
3/4s looked at leaves and created a classification chart based on observable features. In their second session, students tried to “crack the code” for a STEM Escape Room sheet and created a paper plate rocking boat.
5/6s continued with their adaptations work, with the focus for this week being on the frilled neck lizard.

In The Artroom
The last two weeks in the Artroom have been spent creating art using Colour Theory.
We’ve focused on the Colour Wheel and Warm and Cool colours. Grades 1-4 have also commenced their Indigenous rainbow painting using oil pastels and watercolour paints. Lots and lots of painting!
Grade 5 & 6s continued working on their large artwork for the UV room for our Arts Festival night. They are creating an A2 piece of artwork based on Keith Haring’s style of art, and painting with UV fluorescent paints. These will ‘glow’ in the dark with our special UV lights.
Our Arts Festival night is on at the end of this term – Thursday, 27th March, starting at 6pm. We will have lots of fun and exciting activities for everyone to participate in as well as some awesome raffle prizes! We have special guest artists this year – Jesse Shannahan and Belinda Rogers to facilitate some very specific art activities. Jasmin Wright and Aunty Claudette will also be special guests on the night, with Aboriginal artifacts and resources, sharing their knowledge and skills with the whole school community.
It's going to be an AWESOME night and we hope to see you all there!
Art extension for gr 6 has been on a Tuesday lunchtime with these students concentrating on drawing the Collaborative Painting for people to paint at our Arts Festival Night.
Art club has been on a Wednesday lunchtime. This again will be run in grade levels.
