Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 3. I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing break. Hopefully with the break both our students and staff were able to rest up and recuperate from all of the illnesses we had at the end of last term. Please remember school is not the place for sick children.
150 Year Celebration
Last night we held a meeting to continue planning the 150 Year Celebration which is being held on Sunday September 14th. We have lots of things planned for both children and our former students on the day. To ensure the day is a success we will need helpers who will be willing to volunteer for an hour or so on the day. The plan is to get signup information out shortly.
We are going to sell pavers on the day which people will be able to put their names on, the same as the ones at the front entrance to the school. Our plan is to use the pavers to lay a similar path at the Junior School.
While we will be selling them on the day we will also be offering the school community the opportunity to purchase a paver to be included in the path. More information will be out leading up to the 150 Year celebration.
Semester 1 Reports
The Semester 1 Reports and Assessment Portfolios were sent home last week with the students. Hopefully everyone has returned the portfolio when they attended the 3 Way conference today. If you have not returned your child’s portfolio, could you please do so by the end of the week.
3-Way Conferences
Thank you to the families who attended the 3 Way Conferences today. If you were unable attend yesterday, please ensure that you contact your child’s teacher to make alternative arrangements.
Thanks also to the families who were able to keep their children at home today. This allows us to run the day in the way we do. Your support is greatly appreciated.
NAPLAN
We have received the Year 3 and 5 individual student NAPLAN results. The individual reports were sent home with each child who did the tests on Monday. I also sent out an explanation of the NAPLAN results to the year 3 and 5 parents via Compass on Monday.
This is now the third year that the results have been reported using the current format. Students have been marked in a band that reflects their results. There are four bands, exceeding, strong, developing and needs additional assistance.
At this stage we have the preliminary school reports, but we do not have the state and national comparison data. Our results are very pleasing with the vast percentage of the students in both years 3 and 5 in the exceeding and strong categories.
Regards
Janet Paterson,
Principal.
