Halfway Through a Memorable Year!
It’s hard to believe that our Year 6 students are already halfway through their final year at St Bernard’s! The start of Term 3 has been both positive and action-packed, filled with rich learning experiences and exciting extracurricular activities.
In literacy, students have begun reading Once by Morris Gleitzman. This powerful novel has sparked deep discussions and learning around World War II, with a particular focus on the Holocaust. Through Felix’s journey, students are developing a greater understanding of the historical context, the impact of war on individuals and communities, and the importance of empathy, resilience, and standing up for what is right.
In mathematics, we’ve been exploring patterns and developing algebraic thinking. Students have been creating rules and expressions using geometric shapes and physical objects, helping them to visualise and understand abstract concepts in a hands-on and meaningful way.
Our Year 6s also proudly participated in National Tree Planting Day. With great enthusiasm and teamwork, they planted 50 native trees and grasses at the back of the school grounds. This initiative not only supports our local environment but also fosters a sense of responsibility and care for the world around us.
We’re looking forward to a term filled with continued learning, growth, and excitement as we prepare our Year 6s for the next chapter in their educational journey.
