Grade 3 News

Welcome back to Term 3.

We hope that everyone had a wonderful break with family and friends.

We are looking forward to an action-packed term, full of learning and growth.

In Literacy, our reading novel is ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes.

The Iron Man is a science fiction story written by British poet Ted Hughes.

Originally published in 1968, it explores themes of bravery, understanding, and peace.

It is about a mysterious metal giant that appears in the countryside, causing alarm by eating farm machinery. But when a terrifying space creature threatens Earth, the Iron Man becomes an unlikely hero.

The story is told through the eyes of Hogarth, a young boy who befriends the Iron Man.

Our focus in writing is all about Iron.

We are researching the following questions.

What is Iron?

What is Iron Ore used for?

How is Iron Ore processed?

How is Iron ore mined?

Last term, we listened to the famous Poems ‘Muga Bills Bicycle’ and ‘The Ant Explorer’ and students had an opportunity to write some of their own poems.

In Maths, we have been on the CUBE strategy in multiplication and division. We have been using our knowledge of skip counting, arrays, and groups of, to help break down questions and answer worded questions effectively.

In Religion, we’re exploring Parables — the meaningful stories Jesus told to teach important lessons about kindness, forgiveness and faith.

In History, we are looking at Past and Present. How have communities changed over time? We have been looking at old photos of Wangaratta and other places around Australia looking at how places have changed over time.

A reminder that Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Monday 4th of August, which is also a Pupil Free Day. Bookings can be made via PAM. Please also note that Wednesday 13th of August is a Pupil Free Day as staff participate in professional development.

A reminder that the requirement is that all children read up to 5 days per week; a book of their choice.

Reading diaries are expected to be seen by the classroom teacher once a week. Well done to those students who are consistently reading!
