Principal's Message

Term 3

Term 3 has kicked off with a burst of energy, despite some weather challenges, we've powered through with athletics events, mountain biking adventures, a spectacular FOCM choir performance at the Opera House, and a joyful Book Fair and Parade to celebrate Education Week.

This week, we have held our NAIDOC Week full of inspiring learning. Next week, we're heading to Flourish at Toormina High School, followed by the grand spectacle of our musical in Week 9. Get ready to buckle up for an exciting Term 3 packed with amazing HPGE opportunities for all our Boambee Learners!

NAIDOC Week

At Boambee Public School, we observe NAIDOC Week at a later date than many other schools. This scheduling allows us to secure the availability of elders and community members during what is typically a busy time for them. Throughout this week, each of our stages will host visitors and dedicate their efforts to learning about and celebrating Aboriginal culture.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2025 is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy". This theme celebrates the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week and focuses on the achievements of the past while looking towards the future with Indigenous youth at the forefront. It emphasizes the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their vision for a better future.

We commenced our celebrations with language and cultural lessons led by Kevin Dumas (Cultural Mentor and Language Tutor at Boambee Public School), Uncle Steven Skinner, and Uncle Richard Widders. Yesterday, Natalia Baechtold and Rebecca Hyland facilitated cultural lessons for our Stage 3 and Early Stage 1 students. Today, we welcomed Jacob Kelly, Rebecca Hyland, Uncle Kevin, and Uncle Steven once again, who provided enriching cultural learning experiences for our K-2 students.

The involvement of these community members brings invaluable knowledge and cultural strength to our school community, and we are deeply grateful for their support in enhancing Aboriginal education at Boambee Public School

Getting to Know our Wonderful Staff

This week we get to find out a bit more about Mr Nathan Pike (Assistant Principal - Instructional Leader)

  • If you could travel anywhere, where would you go, and why? I would love to visit Italy, Greece and Croatia at some point as I've heard good reviews about the scenery and food etc. However, I'm more than happy to just duck up the road to Brooms Head, as I have fond memories of family trips when my children were younger.
  • What is your favourite take out food? Thai/chicken panang or Chinese/sizzling steak.
  • If you could do one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Retire - (travel/eat/sleep/family time)... I know, it's more than one thing!
  • Why did you want to work in education? Honestly, before experiencing teaching I chose to work in education as the hours catered well for family life. Now with experience, I'm glad because it is also a great feeling knowing that you can make a positive impact on the life of others.
  • If you were to live anywhere (not in Australia) where would it be? No idea! Unfortunately I haven't travelled well enough to make that call. Somewhere with good weather or close to Australia, so I could visit often.
  • If you had to change jobs – what would you do? I probably would have been a carpenter. I love building and working with my hands.
  • If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life——what would it be? Tough question... does beer count as a food? If not, maybe rice.
  • What is your favourite sports team? No surprises here. Up Up the mighty Sharkies!
  • What’s the silliest thing you believed as a kid? Crocodiles under the bed.
  • If you had a magic whiteboard, what would you draw on it to come to life and help you teach? Probably another Mr Pike.
  • What’s your secret talent that no one would guess from just looking at you? I once won the open's 100m race at Jetty High School when I was in year 11.
  • Have you ever had a funny nickname? Want to tell us what it was? My Pop was a Pikey, my dad was a Pikey, my brothers, uncles and boys are Pikey's and I've always just been a Pikey. Boring, but it is what it is. Although Will Kocek nearly got Piko off the ground when he was in Year 1.
  • If you could swap jobs with any animal for a day, what would you be and why? You're all thinking a shark, but no, I would choose a monkey. It has nothing to do with it being my Chinese horoscope. It's because they don't seem to take life too seriously and they just look like they have a lot of fun.

Sawtell Rotary Donation

Recently, Sawtell Rotary donated $975 worth of Early Readers to our school. This very generous donation is made every year and is made possible by donations raised at the Sawtell Rotary Club's Annual Trivia Night. We would like to thank the Rotary Club and look forward to these new readers being used in our Kinder and Year 1 classrooms.

P&C Meeting

Our next P&C meeting is on at 6pm, August 11 in the front office. It has been fantastic to have increased parent involvement this year, more numbers and more fundraising ever. We look forward to seeing you there if you can make it, all are welcome.
