Learning in Year 4

Welcome Back & What's on this Term
We hope everyone had a lovely winter break and is feeling refreshed and ready for the second half of the year! The students have settled back into all classroom routines and expectations beautifully, and we are excited for a term full of learning and growth.
We have a jam packed term full of fun and engaging actitives planned for Term 3!
Literacy
We are excited to begin our new class novel, Ophelia and the Marvellous Boy! Students will engage with this text through rich comprehension activities that support deeper understanding and discussion. Alongside this, we will continue to build our reading stamina, with a focus on expression, automaticity, rhythm and phrasing, and smoothness. Our weekly Spalding spelling lessons will continue, helping to identify spelling rules and patterns. We will also explore grammar concepts aligned with our writing tasks. This term in writing, we will begin with informative reports, followed by a unit on narratives, and then move into procedural writing towards the end of the term.
Mathematics
In Maths, we look forward to strengthening our
multiplication skills, exploring fact families and developing our understanding of division. It’s been wonderful to see our students growing in confidence with their multiplication facts! In class, we regularly warm up with fast fact practice, and now we’re beginning to build on this by applying their knowledge to real problem solving tasks.
To support this shift, regular and varied practice at home makes a huge difference and we truly appreciate all the families already helping their children in fun, practical ways. Whether it's using last term’s flip charts, hanging up a multiplication poster, rolling dice or flipping cards for quick challenges, or even skip counting together during car rides very little bit helps reinforce these essential skills.
For families with access to technology, we also recommend engaging with platforms like: -Jetpack Algebra
-Sunset Maths
-TimesTables.com
Integrated
This term, our integrated studies focus on Healthy Bodies. Students will explore how to keep their bodies healthy and functioning by learning about human body systems, the importance of physical activity, interpreting health messages in the community, and
reflecting on their own personal wellbeing.
Each student will choose one body system to investigate in detail. They will then apply their learning by designing and presenting a creative health promotion project, combining both digital and physical design elements. The aim is to encourage others in the school community to live a healthy lifestyle in fun and engaging ways.
