Learning in Year 3

Welcome back to Term 3!

We’ve had a fantastic first week settling back into the classroom and diving into some exciting new learning areas.

In English, we’ve launched our new poetry unit. Students have been exploring a range of poem types, playing with rich adjectives and rhyming words to create their own imaginative pieces. It’s been a joy to see their creativity shine through!

We’ve also started our new literature appreciation book: You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yeti!, the sequel to The Nothing to See Here Hotel, which we thoroughly enjoyed in Term 2. As we read, we’re continuing to build our reading comprehension skills with a focus on wondering, making connections, and visualising the story as it unfolds.

In Maths, our focus this week has been on money – recognising coins, adding amounts to $1, and applying this knowledge to real-life scenarios. These practical skills are being reinforced through engaging classroom activities. In the coming weeks, we’ll move into our unit on fractions.

We're also looking forward to our upcoming excursion to The Big Goose on Thursday, August 21st. This hands-on experience will tie in beautifully with our integrated unit, "Feather, Fur and Fin", as we learn more about animal features, habitats and adaptations.

Lastly, a reminder that Parent-Teacher Interviews are coming up next week on Wednesday – we’re looking forward to catching up with you all to discuss your child’s progress and goals for the term ahead.

Here’s to another brilliant term in Grade 3!
