Learning in Year 2

Dear Grade 2 Families,

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful and restful winter break. We're thrilled to see our students return, ready for an exciting and enriching Term 3.

📅 Key Dates to Remember

  • Book Week: Week 5 (August 18–22)
  • Swimming Program: Weeks 7–8 (September 1–12, excluding Thursday, September 4)
  • Production Rehearsals: Ongoing throughout the term
  • Footy Day Assembly: Friday, September 19

It's shaping up to be a busy and engaging term!

🔢 Mathematics

We'll kick off the term by exploring Place Value, Shapes and Fractions. Later, we'll delve into the four operations: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division. Students will engage in hands-on activities and games to reinforce these concepts.

📖 Literacy

Our focus in Literacy includes:

  • Spalding Program: Daily practice of phonograms, spelling, and grammar rules.
  • Writing: Exploring Recounts, Descriptive Writing and Information Texts, understanding their features, and practicing writing in these genres.
  • Reading: Activities will include teacher modeling, independent reading, small group sessions, and whole-class discussions.
  • Literacy Appreciation: Weekly exploration of various texts and their features.

🌱 Integrated Studies: Farm to Table

This term, we'll investigate where our food comes from and the journey it takes to reach our tables. Students will explore food origins, production processes, and sustainability.

📖 Wellbeing

We are excited to explore lots of important topics in our weekly Wellbeing lessons this term. We will start by learning about the Zones of Regulation, which help us understand our feelings and how to manage them. Then, we will talk about identity and body safety, learning how to keep ourselves safe and understand what makes us special. Later in the term, we will finish by learning all about fair play and how to be kind and fair when we play with others.

🤝 Thank You

We appreciate your ongoing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher. We're looking forward to a fantastic Term 3 together!

Warm regards,

The Grade 2 Teaching Team
