NAIDOC Week Fundraiser

On Friday 25 July the Year 7 and 12 students held a fundraiser to support NAIDOC week. A free dress day and BBQ was held to recognise the culture, history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We were able to raise $1166.88 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, who are dedicated to improving literacy outcomes for children.

Thank you to everyone who donated and helped out to make the day as successful as it was. A huge thank you to Bakers Delight North Ringwood for kindly donating the bread for the BBQ. Your support allowed for more funds to be raised so more Indigenous children can be supported.

Music Camp

Term 3 is a very busy time for our Music and Production spaces, so let’s take a look at what’s going on at the moment! We just had our Annual Music Camp in Week 2 of Term 3, and I can say that it was a resounding success, all thanks to the amazing music staff headed by Ms Cherry. This was also Ms Cherry’s first time on Music Camp so it was amazing that she was able to make the camp run so smoothly on her first time, and I would like to thank her immensely on behalf of the music students who attended. The Music Captains run an Annual Trivia Night on the camp, and we had a wonderful night this year thanks to the hard work from my fellow captains who put in so much effort to ensure it ran smoothly. On the final day of Music Camp, we listened to a performance by each of the ensembles, and I would like to congratulate all of the students who worked really hard on the camp as their performances were amazing. Music Camp really is such a beautiful and fun Norwood tradition and I’m heartbroken that this was my last time. I want to take this opportunity to wish future Norwood musicians the best of luck in future music camps. This has been such a special part of my journey through Norwood, and it’ll remain an important memory for years to come.

School Production - 'Oliver!'

Alas we must not stop because the production is in just 3 weeks! Production is full steam ahead and the cast is now (almost) completely off script. We have exciting times ahead with late night rehearsals and Sunday rehearsals all beginning next week. Sitzprobes (initial run throughs with the band and vocalists) have already begun, and we will have the first run through of the whole show with the band next Sunday. We have our wonderful 'Oliver' production t-shirts as well, so keep an eye out across the college over the next few weeks as we wear them in the lead up to the show. We also sung the musical number “Who will buy?” at Wednesday’s assembly with student musician Isaac Lockwood on keyboard assisting our production chorus. Thank you, Isaac for your hard work on the keys. If you’d like to hear more of his playing, you’re in luck, because he’s playing for the full show! I think the whole chorus will agree it was a fantastic performance, and we loved giving a little teaser of our show to the rest of the college.

We can’t wait for you to see our show on the 28th, 29th, and 30th of August at Karralyka theatre. Tickets are selling fast so grab them while you still can, then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
