Hello Year Two families,
Our students quickly settled back into school life after a well-earned break, and it was great to see the excitement they had shown to be back at school with their teachers and friends. We have hit the ground running and jumped straight back into our regular program.
This term, our Inquiry unit is called ‘How Has Play Changed?’ To support our Inquiry unit, the students have been asked to prepare an oral presentation about the ways our families played in the past.
Important news:
- Grade 2 Sleepover: We can announce that a date has been set for our Year 2 Sleepover! It will take place on Thursday 6th November (Week 5 of Term 4). More information about the event will be provided closer to the date. If you have any questions about the night, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
- Parent Helpers - Reading: If you are interested in helping to hear some students read on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, please add your name to our class schedules placed outside each of our classrooms. Alternatively, please feel free to email your child’s classroom teacher. We would like to extend a big thank you to those who have assisted with reading so far!
Please note: If you do wish to help out with our reading program, you need to have provided a copy of your Working With Children Card to the school office and completed the Annual Volunteer Registration for 2025 on Compass.
- Term 3 Oral Presentation: The topic for the Term 3 oral presentation is ‘The Ways My Family Played in the Past!’ Please look out for the note that was sent home with your child for more information.
Curriculum Focus: Weeks 3 and 4
- Literacy: In Reading, we will be looking at summarising texts to improve comprehension. In Writing, we will be working on compound sentences and beginning to look at persuasive writing.
- Numeracy: We will be learning about multiplication and how it relates to repeated addition and equal groups. We will also be learning about division and how it can be modelled as repeated subtraction.
- Inquiry: We will be continuing to learn about toys from the past and discuss how toys have changed over time. We will also analyse why these changes have been made and discuss whether these changes are positive or negative, or a mixture of both.
- Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Resilience, we are learning about bravery and the many different ways that we can display bravery in our everyday lives.
- Respectful Relationships: This term we are focusing on Gender and Identity. We will be exploring a range of activities that will support students to reflect on their identities: likes, dislikes and strengths. Moreover, we will develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms and develop an appreciation of difference.
Until next time,
The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Rochelle White (2W)
