Visual Art

All grades started the term looking at Aboriginal symbols and their meaning. We studied some Aboriginal art pieces and looked at the stories and symbols used to create them. All grades also worked on their Crazy Camel pieces using a mix of materials eg. Oil pastels, food dye, textas, watercolour and paint to create individual, one of kind pieces that are chosen by the students. These will be finished in the next lesson where all classes will then move onto creating their Seaside Fair Art piece. There will be a small exhibition of children’s artwork at the fair for everyone to enjoy.

Grade Prep’s

After completing their Crazy Camel pieces, the Grade Preps will begin decorating some sea stars with intricate dot patterns.

Grade 1’s

Most of the grade ones have completed their ‘Crazy Camel’ art pieces and have moved onto designing a sea creature. We are using a wax resist technique to create this piece where we use white crayon to draw our picture then paint over it using food dye. The students love to see the magic happen!

Grade 2’s

The Grade 2’s have now moved onto some scratch art. They will be using oil pastels to create the colourful background which will then be covered in black paint and left to dry. The students will then scratch away the black to create their masterpiece!

Grade 3/4’s

The Grade 3/4’s have begun a 3D beach scene using paint, airdry clay and magiclay. I can’t wait to see these finished.

Grade 5/6’s

The Grade 5/6’s need a bit more time to finish their Crazy Camel pictures. After this activity we will move onto designing a concertina 3D landscape. This will be quite detailed and will need a few weeks to complete.

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Performing Arts

Preps

Term 3 in the Performing Arts room we are discovering drama and acting. What is drama and what is acting? Acting is pretending to be an object, an animal or a different person.

The preps will be playing games that require cooperation, pretending  and their imagination to act out the different elements, pretending to be something in a safe controlled environment.

Choir

Firstly, congratulations to all the students who participated in the performance at the end of last term. I was so very proud of the choir. The students have been committed to attend the rehearsals and be brave enough to stand in front of the school and sing. Thank you to all the choir members. Well Done!

Term 3 we will continue our weekly sessions , learning new material in readiness for the Seaside Fair in November.

LOTE (French)

Le Quatorze Juillet

The term has started strong in the French room with all year levels ready to go!! It is looking very promising for lots of solid and wonderful learnings together ahead.

Across year levels, we have explored the topic of Bastille Day/ Le Quatorze Juillet to discuss the celebration just passed on Monday 14th July. Students were prompted with vocabulary such as:

Liberté

Louis XVI

Marie-Antoinette

La prison de la Bastille

Le chateau de Versailles

Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité

Lundi quatorze Juillet deux mille vingt-cinq, etc …

This opened up onto conversations about human rights, social justice, France in 1789 vs. today, our students’ place in the world, the world as we know it today as well as the current living conditions in some countries that, unfortunately, can still be closely compared to the way the poor people struggled under the reign of Louis XVI 236 years ago.

Many class discussions were had that saw students, big and small, reflect on the values of a well-balanced society as we narrowed it down to our school and then again to the microcosm of our French classroom where our cultural values and expectations are upheld for the better of everyone around us, in the spirit of France’s motto ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’ (Freedom, Equality, Togetherness). It really helped put a lot of things in perspective for our Willy Kids with the primary understanding to remember that:

BASTILLE DAY = celebration of FREEDOM & HUMAN RIGHTS for all
