Italian Overview- Term 1 2026

Dear Families,

Welcome back to the new school year!

For those who are new to the school or have not met me before, my name is Signorina Balaban and I am the teacher of Italian at Resurrection School. My role as a language teacher is to teach students about the Italian language and culture but also to support the development of their literacy and numeracy skills. I use an ‘intercultural approach’ to teaching which allows students to share, reflect and compare what they know about their own language and culture to that of the Italian language and culture.

This term, students will complete drawing activities, play games, use actions, role-play and sing songs as they learn phrases under the topics of Carnevale and Buona Pasqua. They will learn about Carnevale’s history and what people see and do at the event. The students will make their own unique masks. They will learn how to describe their mask’s features in Italian. Students will also compare Italian and Australian Easter traditions.

Looking forward to a great year in Italian!

Cordiali saluti,

Signorina Balaban
