Year 7 camp

Our Year 7 students returned from an incredible three day camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort, and what an unforgettable camp it was! With 127 enthusiastic Year 7 students joined by seven outstanding Year 10 mentors, the camp was packed with adventure, teamwork and plenty of laughter from start to finish.

We were incredibly lucky and grateful to enjoy perfect weather, which meant students could make the most of everything on offer. Across the three days, students challenged themselves through activities including surfing, high ropes, raft making, disc golf, twin flying fox and the ever competitive Team Rescue. It was so wonderful to see students encouraging one another, stepping outside their comfort zones and building new friendships.

A major highlight was the surfing sessions. For many of our students, this was their first time on a surfboard, and it was fantastic to see so many students stand up and catch their first waves. The cheers on the beach as students successfully rode waves back to shore were a real reminder of how powerful it is to try something new and support each other in the process.

Competition and teamwork were on full display during the Team Rescue, with Activity Group 7 proudly claiming the title of Team Rescue champions. The Mini Olympics on the final day also brought out plenty of energy and enthusiasm, giving students one last chance to compete, collaborate and celebrate together before heading home.

Of course, camp would not be complete without the much-loved night walk. This year’s walk featured the Heathmont 100m dash, giving students an opportunity to test their speed against not just each other, but some of our keen teaching staff. The mix of friendly competition, laughter and a chance to enjoy the evening outdoors together made it another memorable camp tradition.

One of the most pleasing aspects of camp was seeing students grow in confidence across just a few short days. Many students arrived a little nervous about being away from home, but quickly settled in, made new friends and embraced every opportunity presented to them.

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all staff who attended camp and supported students throughout the three days. From running activities and supervising cabins to organising games, supporting homesick students and ensuring everything ran smoothly, the dedication of staff made this experience possible.

A special mention must also go to our Year 10 leaders, who did an outstanding job supporting activities, encouraging younger students and helping create a welcoming and positive camp environment.

By the time the buses arrived back at school, students were tired but full of stories and memories that will no doubt be shared for weeks to come. Year 7 Camp 2026 was truly a fantastic way to start the year, and we are incredibly proud of how our students represented Heathmont College.
