Principal's Report

Welcome to 2026!
Welcome back to a new school year at Macedon Primary School. It has been wonderful speaking with our students and families, and hearing about the many exciting experiences our children enjoyed over the break — from trips away and family time, and outdoor adventures.
Our staff have returned full of energy, and there is a sense of excitement about the year ahead. Teachers have been busy preparing learning spaces and planning engaging learning experiences for 2026, and it has been fantastic to see students making such a strong start — settling into their classrooms, reconnecting with friends, and getting to know their new teachers.
A special mention to our Foundation families: our Foundation students are currently completing their assessments in preparation for their first day on Tuesday. These short assessments help our teachers understand each child’s starting point so we can plan learning that is targeted, supportive, and responsive from day one.
Term 1 will be a busy one, with lots of opportunities for community connection and student participation. Coming up we have the 3–6 House Swimming Sports, Meet the Teacher Night, Clean Up Australia Day, House Cross Country, Curriculum Day, Ride to School Day, NAPLAN testing, and House Athletics. Thank you in advance for your support with these events — your involvement makes a huge difference.
Here’s to a positive, productive, and joyful year of learning ahead.
Classroom Open Evening
We’re looking forward to welcoming families to our Classroom Open Evening on Wednesday 11th February, from 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to visit your child’s new classroom while classrooms are open across the school. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and say hello, have a look at the learning space, see where your child sits, learn about classroom expectations and routines, and get a sense of the resources and learning tools students use each day.
It’s also a lovely chance to connect with other families and help strengthen the sense of community within our school. We hope to see you there!
2026 Reporting
This year we have made some changes across the school to our reporting processes, with a focus on giving families a clearer and more ongoing picture of your child’s learning progress throughout the year.
Parent/Teacher interviews will now take place at the end of Term 1. This timing allows the conversations to focus on student progress and learning goals, rather than primarily discussing how students are settling into a new school year.
Our reporting and interview schedule for 2026 will be:
- End of Term 1: Parent/Teacher interviews
- End of Term 2: Semester 1 reports available
- End of Term 3: Parent/Teacher interviews
End of Term 4: Semester 2 reports available
We have also made some changes to how Seesaw is used across the school. In 2026, Seesaw will serve as an online portfolio of your child’s work. Each term each student will post:
- 2 Mathematics items
- 2 Reading items
- 2 Writing items
1 Inquiry item
These posts will provide families with regular insights into what students are learning and how they are progressing across these key areas.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we strengthen the ways we share learning and progress with our community.
Compass
We are excited to launch Compass School Manager at Macedon Primary School.
Our launch was slightly delayed due to the shutdown of some Department systems following a recent privacy breach.
Compass School Manager is our new communication and school administration platform that brings key information into one place. It will be used to share important updates and events, manage student details and permissions, and support day-to-day school communications between home and school.
Today you should have your login details sent to you. If you have any trouble logging in, please contact the office and we will be happy to help.
Warm regards,
Andrew Bloomfield
Principal
