WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (1 of 2)

YEAR 9 SURF CAMP

BY CALEB LOBBE (Year 9 Level Coordinator)

Our Year 9 cohort recently returned from a Surf Camp in Anglesea and the students had an awesome time! The program was jam packed with adventure activities ranging from surfing lessons to sea kayaking, high ropes and more! It was so good to see everyone on camp embrace the activities, often by facing fears and going beyond their comfort zone. Our staff team was really proud of the way each student embraced the activities. We also had fun going on a night walk to support the business of a local ice cream store (I think they made a great sale!) and watching Cool Runnings just prior to the Winter Olympics beginning. During the camp many great relationships were built and strengthened and there were many opportunities to reflect on the Year 9 theme for the year of ‘legacy’. Thank you to everyone involved in the camp- it was lots of fun!

PRE-PREP (4YO KINDER) ADVENTURES

BY KIRSTY MEESE (Kinder Director)

In our Pre-Prep class during our first few weeks, we were very brave and went on adventures around the school grounds. We explored the Primary Learning Centre (PLC) and saw the “Little Biggies” (Primary School Students) and admired their artwork on the walls. We also saw the “Biggies” (Secondary School Students) and were a bit surprised by how tall they were. I think one of our highlights on our adventure was seeing the new Senior Learning Centre being built. We explored the Science labs, listened to students play music for us in the Music Rooms and enjoyed running around the outdoor basketball courts. During our first weeks in Pre-Prep, we have enjoyed demonstrating our independence as we chop fruit for our morning tea plate, building robots out of box donations, making new friends as we play in the sandpit and learning that if we pour water down the slide and wear our wet weather clothing, we go so much faster!

ENVISION ALL ABOUT PATHWAYS

BY CHAUNTELLE WOLFAARDT (Careers Advisor)

On Tuesday the 10th February, our Year 12 students were able to listen to the career journeys of several of our past students; Ella, Mikaela and Josiah. Since leaving BHCS they have followed their passions and pursued studies and career pathways in nursing, occupational therapy and carpentry.

Each of them spoke with confidence and enthusiasm, telling the students about opportunities they have had for travel, work placements and the variety of people they have worked alongside since leaving school. They were also able to give some great advice to our Year 12 students who are just beginning their last year of high school and starting to make similar choices to the ones our panel members made several years ago.

"God placed gifts and talents in all of us and finding a career is using those talents every day!"

"Year 12 is not the end - it is the beginning to be the person who you want to be now."

"Enjoy where you are! Say yes to everything and enjoy every moment and pursue every opportunity."

Our panel members did not gloss over the hard work they put into Year 12 but they were also encouraging of our students to enjoy the memory-making moments of Year 12, and to make the most of what is offered at school in terms of friendship, advice and encouragement from both staff and other students.
