FINDING THE RHYTHM OF THE YEAR

VICKY FRAANJE (DEPUTY PRINCIPAL)

It is hard to believe that we are already a month into the new school year. Three camps, a leadership excursion, and countless firsts later, we are finding our rhythm again. Classrooms are humming with energy, new friendships are forming, and the nervous excitement of those early days is beginning to settle into something steadier: a sense of belonging.

Beginnings can feel both energising and exhausting. Everything is new, from faces and routines to challenges, and that constant adjustment takes time. But as things begin to settle, we start to notice moments of calm: the quiet of a morning classroom before the bell rings, the laughter across the yard, and the simple joy of seeing students grow in confidence day by day. In the Christian story, rhythm is part of how God designed the world. There is a time for work and a time for rest, a time for beginning and a time for settling. The book of Ecclesiastes reminds us, “To everything there is a season,” which is an invitation to embrace each stage without rushing. As we move from the chaos of new beginnings to the steadiness of routine, we can take comfort in knowing that every season has a purpose.

For those who share the Christian faith, it is reassuring to remember that God walks with us through all these stages, in the busy, noisy, exciting moments, and in the quieter, reflective ones. For others, this same idea can remind us of the value of balance, of finding moments to pause, breathe, and notice what is good around us.

As we continue into Term 1, may we all, students, staff, and families, find our rhythm. May our students feel known and supported. May parents feel calm and connected. And may each of us, in our own way, find space to give thanks for where we are and hope for what is ahead.
