As we come to the end of another wonderful year in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, Term 4 brought with it a celebration of seasonal produce, growing skills and shared successes.

This term we welcomed beautiful winter and spring vegetables from the garden into the kitchen. Our first menu featured Warrigal greens, mushroom and feta pizza, paired with a fresh and crunchy garden coleslaw. Lightly dressed with a tangy Greek yoghurt dressing instead of mayonnaise, it was the perfect way to showcase our freshly harvested cabbages and herbs.

Our second menu made the most of our vibrant spring onions and beetroot, with students creating spring onion flatbreads alongside a leafy beetroot and feta salad. Both menus were a big hit, with students enthusiastically tasting, preparing and sharing everything they made.

Throughout the year, students have worked hard to build their knife skills and Term 4 was no exception. It has been wonderful to see their confidence and precision grow with every session. A particular highlight was seeing our Year 3 students finish the year completing the same menu as our Year 5 and 6 students — a true reflection of how far they have come.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our incredible volunteers for their ongoing time, effort and support. Your commitment enables our students to continue to Grow, Harvest, Prepare and Share and we are so grateful for everything you do. To celebrate, Bianca and I were delighted to host a volunteer thank-you lunch last Tuesday while students enjoyed their transition day with their 2026 classes.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the program this year. We look forward to another year of learning, cooking and growing together in 2025.

We’re always looking for parent volunteers to help make our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) sessions possible in 2026. Classes run on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Year 3–4 students participating on Mondays and Year 5–6 on Tuesdays. To ensure students get the full, hands-on Kitchen Garden experience, we need a minimum of three helpers per class. No experience is needed—just a willingness to lend a hand and share in the fun. Please click the link below to sign up and support this much-loved program.
