Year Six

Biological Science Unit
This term, Year Six students have been engaged in an exciting Biological Sciences unit exploring the adaptations of Australian plants and animals. Throughout the unit, students investigated a variety of species and examined the physical and behavioural features that enable them to survive in diverse Australian environments. They explored different habitats, including deserts, forests, grasslands and coastal regions and considered how environmental conditions influence the adaptations of living things.
The Year Sixes developed their scientific understanding by researching how specific adaptations support survival, such as obtaining food, avoiding predators and coping with changing weather conditions.
As a creative task, students designed their own unique Australian plants and animals. They carefully explained the adaptations they had included and justified how these features would help their creations thrive in their chosen habitats. To bring their ideas to life, students also constructed models of their plants using a range of materials and resources, demonstrating both creativity and scientific thinking.
