Club de Español

Our last session at the Spanish Club was full of fun and laughter!
The theme was traditional games from the past, and everyone—young and not-so-young—had an absolute blast. The school-aged kids humbled us “kids” in our 30s and 40s (and beyond!) , hopscotch (rayuela), skipping rope (saltar a la comba in Spain, saltar el lazo in parts of Latin America), and elastic band games.
While the younger ones were full of energy, some of us might have needed a little WD-40 after all that jumping around! We also introduced to kids and parents, another popular game from Hispanoamérica known as Balero in Mexico, Balerino in Argentina, Emboque in Chile and Coca in Colombia. This game is a traditional cup-and-ball skill toy. It consists of a wooden handle (or stick) attached via a string to a hollow ball or barrel. The goal is to toss the ball into the air and skillfully catch it using the stick. Families from all backgrounds—Spanish-speaking and not—had a wonderful opportunity to connect and bond through joy and shared experiences.
¡Nos vemos pronto!
