GOSPEL

Matthew 10:26-33

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

Do not fear those who can kill the body.

Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: ‘Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered, and everything now hidden will be made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the house-tops.

‘Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. Why, every hair on your head has been counted. So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows.

‘So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.’

Children discussion starters

A beginning point for discussion of this week's Gospel with children:

  • What are some of your most precious things?
  • How do you care for them?
  • God says that we are precious to him.  How does God care for us?

We do not need to be afraid because God is always with us.

The Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass

Last week, we celebrated a whole school solemnity mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. The central focus of this Mass is to reflect on the Sacred heart of Jesus as we are reminded to model ourselves on Jesus who was loving, compassionate and merciful.

During this Mass we recognised the tiresome work that St Vincent De Paul society do.

As a school, we will be having a casual clothes day and gold coin donation on Friday to raise funds and show our support of this wonderful charity.
