Players for Pink match - LC winners!
Our annual Players for Pink clash with Clarendon College was held Thursday 28 May and delivered an outstanding display of grit, pride and silky smooth football skills. It was an exciting contest that went down to the wire, with both teams trading the lead throughout a highly entertaining match.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who represented the school so strongly!
A special shout out to Macy - Year 11 (massive speccy and 3 goals), Tilly (a don't-argue followed by goal of the year from the left pocket on her right boot), Remmy (did the job up forward, in the midfield, in the backline and even in the ruck) and Lily (explosive pace and lace out delivery into the forward line) for their outstanding leadership and influence across the game, helping guide our team to a well-earned 10-point win at the final siren.
Congrats to Mr Flight who has more engravings on the Players for Pink trophy than any coach in the country. Thanks to the Loreto College staff and the Senate for their amazing support and cheering from the sidelines.
A big final thank you to everyone who wore a touch of pink or purchased a pink finger-bun in the canteen to support such a wonderful cause.
FUEL Summit Leadership Day
By Penny - Year 10
On 16 March, all Ballarat high schools had the opportunity to select a group of Year 10 students to attend the FUEL Youth Summit. This event was held at the Civic Hall, running from 9am to 5pm. The day was focused on empowering students by strengthening our leadership skills. This was done by dividing everyone into groups of about ten, mixing students from different schools. This was a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new people.
The day began with a series of ice-breaker activities, introducing ourselves to other people. For the remainder of the day, we completed different games and challenges, such as spaghetti towers, Simon Says, and marble runs. These activities were designed to show us how we solve problems, cooperate, and use our creativity. The speakers of the day introduced us to different concepts of how we can be leaders in our schools.
We then spent a large amount of the day listing things that we felt needed changing in our schools. This was very interesting because we were able to brainstorm ideas with students from different schools, and find similarities in our thoughts. The speakers then encouraged us to communicate our ideas with our peers from Loreto and act on our them to create change.
The day was broken up by short breaks, during which we were able to mingle with people while enjoying the food and drink provided. During these breaks, we went over our ideas and all that we discussed with our groups, with other students. This was a really good way of gaining insight into what everyone had brainstormed. Overall, the day was high energy, inspiring, and encouraged us to be leaders in our schools and community.
DaVinci Decathalon
By Audrey - Year 8
This year, a group of nine wonderful students formed the Loreto College Decathlon Year 8 Team for 2026. We spent several lunchtimes over this term practising all 10 disciplines of the Da Vinci Decathlon. The Da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: Engineering, Mathematics, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography, and Legacy. All members brought different talents and strengths to the team and chose one topic to focus on and lead, and two topics to study as a group.
On 31 March, our team competed in the regional competition that was held at St Patrick's College. We left Loreto at 8:20am and walked down to St Pat's where we spent the day filling out test papers, building cuckoo clocks, and testing our creativity and endeavour. As a group, we placed 3rd out of the Year 8s in Code-Breaking, 2nd in Art and Poetry, 2nd in Engineering and 1st in Legacy.
I found this whole experience to be a great opportunity for me. I made new friends and tested my critical thinking in new and exciting ways. The day itself was lots of hard work, but very rewarding to come out at the end and celebrate with a group of smart, kind and quite frankly amazing girls. I learnt and further developed many valuable skills such as teamwork, dedication, and communication. It was a very challenging, fun, and educational experience and I am grateful to Ms McLennan and Ms Kilpatrick, who supported us to take part.
Empowering Women in Trades Expo
By Sarah - Year 10
On 22 April, the team at Empowering Women in Trade put on an expo to introduce us to a plethora of trades available to us. The first rotation I did was an introduction to the automotive trade, where we got to use a socket drill to learn how to change a tyre, and learned that trades in the automotive industry were essential and that there were many apprenticeships on offer.
The second rotation was to do with safety and some of us put on PPE or personal protective equipment. Then we were split into two groups and raced to put up a doll house using PVC pipe and connectors to make the frame.
The final rotation was run by PowerCorp where they told us what apprenticeships were on offer and what those jobs did. Overall, it was an amazing experience, and I learned that a career in trade could be on my horizon.
Catholic Education Week Mass
On Tuesday 26 May, representatives from Loreto College joined other Catholic Primary and Secondary schools across the Diocese of Ballarat to celebrate Catholic Education Week, proudly representing their school communities.
With this year’s theme, 'Peace Be With You All,' the Mass was celebrated by Fr Justin Driscoll at the St Alipius Tent Church. The special gathering marked a return to Sovereign Hill, bringing together staff and students from across the Diocese. It was a wonderful celebration of community, belonging and faith.
