In Term 1, we explored Aboriginal Culture to understand and revive what has been lost through colonisation. As part of our assignments, we were to create a painting with our group that portrays our sense of home, interests and what we value or believe in most. We used First Nations symbols to create a deep and meaningful painting that gave us a sense of belonging after learning about Caring for Country and the deep meaning of belonging that is felt for First Nations People to their land.

VCE Sociology

The Unit 3 Sociology students, as part of their study of Ethnicity and Culture, visited the Greek Orthodox Church in Humffray Street North, Ballarat, on Monday 18 May, 2026 and met with one of the Church elders, Angelo Christofi. Angelo spoke to the students about his experience of immigrating as a young adult to Australia. He spoke about the complexity of blending Greek and Australian culture and how he raised a family in Ballarat. The students were able to ask Angelo questions to prepare for their upcoming assessment task about this topic.

VCE History Revolutions

On Friday 15 May, the Unit 3 History Revolutions class gathered in the front parlour to recreate the Boston Tea Party. While the original protesters dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbour, our students partook of cups of tea and fresh-baked buttered Boston bun and debated the merits of the original protesters’ actions. They were visited by the Unit 1 Modern History class, who came to see the tea party towards the end of the class. This was so that the Unit 1 students could ask questions about Unit 3 History in preparation for Subject Selection.

Year 7 Geography

While this term has seen beautiful and warm weather grace our Lake Wendouree, the Year 7 Geography Field work took place on a day where the weather was less than ideal. However, our Year 7 Geography students and their Humanities teachers enthusiastically embraced the activities of the day based around the theme of `Water in our World’. We were joined by guest presenters, Peter Blackburn from Central Highlands Water and Tarryn O’Leary the Project Officer 'Citizen Science Corangamite Catchment Management Authority’. In particular, the session about 'What waterbugs can you find?’ was very popular and led to some exciting finds.
