MPS Junor Rangers:

A small group of our First Nations students participates in the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Junior Rangers Program each fortnight. Through regular engagement with a Bunurong Elder, students take part in a wide range of cultural and environmental learning experiences, including tree planting, exploring traditional plant, animal and fire knowledge, possum skin etching, cooking with Indigenous ingredients, and traditional tool making. These experiences support students to deepen their connection to Country, learn the importance of caring for the land, and develop an understanding of what it means to ‘listen to Country’.

KELiS at Dromana College

This term, we had the pleasure of hosting KELiS (Koorie Emerging Leaders in Schools) at our school. It was fantastic to see so many First Nations students from 16 different Bayside schools connect, learn, and gather strength together.

Our day consisted of an inspiring yarn from Bunurong Elder Aunty Jill West; followed by workshops from the First People’s Assembly of Victoria speaking to our young mob about the Treaty progress, Nairm Marr Djambana (Frankston Gathering Place) educating us on Culture, plants and artefacts and also VACCA (Victorian Child Community Agency) exploring wellbeing, identity and conflict.

We hope the day sparked curiosity, connection, and a deeper respect for the world's oldest living culture within our KELiS leaders and teachers.
