PREP

Our large cubist portraits inspired by child artist Andres Valencia are finished. Here are some finished pieces. Such masterpieces!

To wrap up the term, we learnt about shape through cubism, now we are learning about lines. As students entered the room they were asked to draw lines on large pieces of paper laid out on the table. Once done we read the story Larry the Line, it covers all the different types of line vocabulary in a playful poem. The students were asked to draw 3 different types of lines. The line needed to start at one edge of the paper and travel to another. Once done, students used contour lines to trace around their original 3 lines. Students were also encouraged to take care when choosing colours, the colours you choose can change everything.

GRADE 1/2

This term has been full of firsts for the Grade 1/2 students and their artwork doesn't disappoint.

Here is a small selection of the cyanotypes (sun photography). The results are captivating and whimsical. It is special to think that this is the same photography paper used by early photographers almost 200 years ago.

The next task involved printmaking using foam. Anna Atkins published a book that introduced many people to a new species, algae. Without her work, many would never have seen such things. Inspired by this concept, students imagined a plant that they had discovered and shown to the world. We then used printmaking techniques to bring our designs to paper.

GRADE 3/4

The grade 3/4s finished their clay houses this fortnight. All of them are so unique and special in their own way. These will be going in the kiln and will be ready to paint after the holidays. Can't wait to share the finished products.

GRADE 5/6

Students have been working on their major piece of the term. This piece combines photography, gel plate printing and collage. The results are striking. It is almost as if these artworks project our school into a dreamscape. Make sure you check out some of the work at the office.
