Principal's Message

Welcome back for Term 2

It's great to have our school community together again after the break. Students have made an encouraging start — settling quickly into learning routines and approaching new work with focus and a willingness to explore and learn.

This is exactly the foundation a productive term is built on. There is plenty ahead to engage with this term, and if this first week is any indication, we are well placed to make the most of it.

Working Bees - May 9th and 15th

Our grounds sub-committee would like to invite you to some upcoming working bees.  We'll be planting out the garden surrounding the Yellow Park playground across two upcoming working bees, made possible thanks to the Junior Landcare Biodiversity Grant we received in 2025.

Our first working bee takes place on Saturday 9 May from 9:00am, with a focus on site preparation and getting our larger trees in the ground. Whatever your experience level, there will be plenty of ways to contribute on the day — everyone is welcome to come along and lend a hand.

Our second working bee takes place on Friday 16 May after school, where we will be planting the remaining trees and completing the garden. This will be a particularly meaningful occasion — a Wurundjeri Elder will perform a Welcome to Country, formally welcoming the new garden to Country. Families are warmly encouraged to stay on afterwards for a sausage sizzle, kindly organised by our parents and friends committee.

Centenary Celebration - get involved!

We have begun planning in earnest for a significant milestone — the centenary of BNPS moving into our current building and site. Celebrations are planned for late Term 3, with activities during the school day and a community event in the evening.

We will be calling on some assistance in the lead-up, and would particularly welcome anyone with skills or interest in history or filmmaking to get in touch. More details will be coming through Compass very soon.

Inter-school sport gala days

This year our grade 5/6 students are participating in inter-school sports through gala days, focussing on one specific sport. Groups of students will engage in full days of competing against local schools in a specific sport they are passionate about. It's a great opportunity to build team work skills, practice being a good sport and enjoy a full day of engaging in a sport they love.

The gala days are replacing the 6 weekly single games played by students. This new model maximises the time students get to play the sport by reducing the time in transit to and from venues.
