Year 4 Update

Learning in Year 4
English
Continuing their learning of narrative structure, students have been summarising their own writing and the class novel Matilda. They have also focused on handwriting with numbers and punctuation, spelling long vowel sounds, and improving sentence structure by using simple sentences and adverbial phrases.
Maths
Students have been reintroducing place value using MAB blocks and exploring different ways to represent numbers. They have practiced writing numbers in worded form, place value form, standard form, and expanded form.
SEL
Students have been learning to recognize and understand different emotions and how they are expressed. They have also explored their personal strengths and how they use them in everyday situations.
Humanities
Students have been learning to understand the concept of identity and become familiar with the vocabulary for this topic.
Homework | |
---|---|
Reading | We strongly encourage students to read every night. Please use their diaries to record their reading and ensure they are signed by a parent or guardian before returning to school. |
Maths | We encourage students to regularly practice their times tables at home to build confidence and fluency. This will help them progress through their levels and strengthen their maths skills by the end of the year. |
Humanities | students will receive a Humanities homework task to support their learning in class. This may include creating a mind map of important people in their lives by listing their family. Another task may involve speaking with parents or grandparents about their school experiences. We encourage families to have these conversations at home to help students deepen their understanding of identity and history. |
A friendly reminder that school hats are required to be worn during recess and lunch. Students who do not have a hat will have to spend recess and lunch under the shade sails. We also encourage wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water during the school day.
