Year 3 Update

Upcoming Learning
English
In English we are exploring the long i and o vowel sounds and working on simple sentences. We are learning to summarise a text using the 5Ws (who, what, when, where and why) and starting our narrative text writing unit.
Maths
In Maths, we are learning to write and represent numbers in the tens, hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands using digits, place value and words. We are also learning to round numbers and place them accurately on number lines using benchmarks.
Inquiry
Our topic this term is 'How can I create a healthy me?'
Students will be investigating the connection between a healthy body and mind to contribute to healthy, safe and active environments.
Social and Emotional
We will be forming positive relationships, working in teams, dealing effectively with conflict by recognising student's emotions and values, as well as their strengths and challenges. We will continue to work closely with the new school values of, kindness, respect and resilience. We will use these values to understand The Matrix of Expected behaviours in and around the school.
News and reminders
Drink bottles: Please remember to bring a drink bottle to school every day. It saves disruption to your child's learning when this is accessible within the room. They are able to fill up their bottles in a nearby classroom.
Hats: A friendly reminder that school hats are required to be worn during recess and lunch. Students who do not have a hat will have to spend recess and lunch under the shade sails. We also encourage wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water during the school day.
Take home readers: We will be starting take home readers in the coming weeks. If your child's blue reader bag is still at home, please send this in with them so we can get these organised.
Homework: Starting from Week 4, students will be assigned homework tasks for the remainder of the term. They are expected to read at least 3–4 nights a week for around 10 minutes and record it in their reading log, which must be signed by a parent. In addition, students should complete 1–2 activities from their homework grid each week. Our approach is articulated in our Hillsmeade PS Homework Policy, which is accessible via our website.
