Hello Level 2 families!

As we settle into the term, it has been wonderful to see students embracing new routines and adapting to their learning spaces. Their positive attitudes toward learning have been truly impressive, and we look forward to watching them grow and thrive this year.

English

The next fortnight of literacy will involve the students learning new sounds as well as reviewing the content delivered in the first four weeks. It is important to revisit and revise previous learning as information makes its way to long term memory.

🔹 Week 5: Reviewing key sounds from the first four weeks, including /tion/, /ur/, /ture/, and the suffix -est.

🔹 Week 6: Introducing the sound /age/ (as in page and stage) and a new suffix.

Students have been deeply engaged in Jetty Jumping, exploring how authors use language to create vivid settings, develop characters, and highlight the theme of taking healthy risks. Their use of descriptive language has been truly impressive!

Looking ahead, students will begin reading Nop, a heartwarming story about an unfinished stuffed toy searching for a place to belong. With courage and curiousity, Nop embarks on an unexpected journey filled with adventure, resilience, and new beginnings.

Maths

In maths, we’ll be helping students add and subtract one- and two-digit numbers using different strategies, including breaking numbers into parts to make calculations easier (part-part-whole method). See below for some examples of what this will look like.

Students will also identify, compare, and sort 2D shapes while introducing terms like opposite, parallel, curved, and straight to describe their features.

Inquiry Focus: Knowing Me

This term in our inquiry lessons, students are exploring the impact of emotions on our minds and bodies. Through our unit, Knowing Me, students are investigating how emotions affect our physical responses and overall well-being. By understanding these connections, they will develop strategies to self-regulate, helping them become more focused and effective learners.

In the next two weeks, we will introduce the Zones of Regulation, a framework that supports students in identifying their emotions at different times of the day. This will empower them with the tools to recognise their feelings, manage their responses, and navigate challenges with confidence.

We look forward to seeing our students grow in their emotional awareness and self-regulation skills!

Developmental Play

We have been incredibly impressed with the students' engagement and creativity during developmental play over the past couple of weeks. It has been wonderful to observe their enthusiasm and imaginative interactions. Here are some photos of the students' in action!

Reminders:

  • We are still needing ICT and Permission forms - please make sure you have the correct year at the top of the page.
  • School hats need to be worn at each break - if a student does not have a hat they will need to sit in the shaded area outside of 2As room.
  • Art Smocks need to be handed into classroom teachers.
