Education in Faith

Sacrament of Reconciliation - Parent Formation Evening - Tuesday 25th February
A focus of the Parish Sacramental Program is the role of family in nurturing the developing faith of our young people. In 2025, parents of Year 4 students from our three parish primary schools are invited to attend a Parent Formation Evening. The evening will be held on Tuesday, 25 February at 7.00 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, 301 Elgar Road, Surrey Hills.

RE Learning in Prep/1 MH
In P1MH we are learning that everyone needs a quiet place. There is a special place for quiet in our classroom. We call this our prayer place.
Here we can be close to God.
Here we learn to pray.
In our prayer place we begin to pray with the sign of the cross. We talk to God, we sing to God, we listen to God and God listens to us.
"Now it was about this time that Jesus went into the hills to pray and he spent the whole night in prayer to God" Luke 6:12
We are wondering;
where we can find a quiet place at school
who helps us to pray
where else we might see a cross
who we talk to when we pray
how the bible can help us to pray and know Jesus
We pray together;
"Jesus- you are with me in my prayer place"
You may wisto set up a prayer place at home. It might simply be a cross and a candle on a small table. It may be a book of prayers or a picture placed where family members can sit and reflect.
We look forward to deepening our relationship with God as we spend time in our prayer place this year.
Sunday Gospel
The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. To the man who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek too; to the man who takes your cloak from you, do not refuse your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks can you expect? For even sinners do that much. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. Instead, love your enemies and do good, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great reward, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
‘Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. Do not judge, and you will not be judged yourselves; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned yourselves; grant pardon, and you will be pardoned. Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back.’
Discussion Questions
1. Can you think of times when people are unkind at school or at home?
2. What do you sometimes feel like doing when people are unkind to you?
3. Jesus asks us to forgive those that hurt us in today’s story. How hard can this be?
Think of someone that you need to forgive and pray for them.
