Year Two

Communicating with the Year Two Team
We look forward to partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:
When communicating with the Year Two team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.
Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

InitiaLit in Term One
The Year Two students have had a busy start to their English Curriculum instruction.
Spelling
We have been focused on reading and spelling words that contain the digraphs, and split digraphs that make the long vowel sounds. This includes: ai, ay, ee, ea, e-e, igh, -y, oa, ow, ew and ue. Segmenting sounds and blending them together over multi-syllable words is an explicit reading and spelling skill that the students have been working on.
Reading
In our Read and Discuss (reading comprehension) lessons, we have explored Imaginative, Informative and Persuasive text types. We are learning to identify their features and explain their purpose. We are practicing reading with fluency and expression while noticing punctuation in the texts we read.
Writing
In Writing we began the school year by reviewing sentence structure and introduced the acronym FANBOYS to help grow our simple sentences into compound sentences.
We have also started a writing unit on Information Reports. The children have been finding facts on Australian animals, using a writing template to record their information, and then using this template to write a complete information report.
Weekly Timetables:
*May alter due to school events
Home Reading
Home reading is in full swing. Thank you to all the students who are remembering to bring their reading diary and green wallet into school every Monday for book swapping and checking.
Class teachers are continuing to assist the students to select a book that is not too hard, not too easy, but just right. This may continue to take time for some students to get accustomed to selecting their own reading material.
Reminders:
Swim program commences in Week 8. Please check all Compass posts regarding requirements.
*Year 2 students are leaving school at 9.15 am on the buses. Please have swimwear already on your child's body with their school uniform over the top to make changing as easy as possible. A small swim bag will come to the pool that should include a change of underwear, goggles, towel, and a plastic bag for wet items.
