Communicating with the Year One Team

We look forward to partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:

When communicating with the Year One team, please reach out via the below email addresses.  Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.

Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We look forward to partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:

English in Year One

Year One students have begun learning about narrative texts. The students of 1A , 1B and 1C, have done a wonderful job of ruling a margin and adding the date to their work before beginning a writing lesson. Students have st writing narratives (imaginative stories) this term.

We work on our handwriting skills each week with a session specifically on letter formation and presentation.

InitiaLit

During Term One, the students have been consolidating new sounds and words during InitiaLit lessons. We have learnt some new tricky words and are working hard to make sure we practice any chance we get! During InitiaLit, we have been working on adding new tricky words into sentences and we are getting better at writing on the whiteboards. Over the last three weeks, we have introduced new terminology to the students. We have learnt a lovely little song that remids us what vowels are and what sound they make. The students enjoy getting started on InitiaLit in the morning and we have established a good routine.

Take Home Readers

All Year One students have been given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term One. Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Monday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Monday.
