Dear Parents,
On Wednesday, we marked the beginning of Lent with a meaningful Ash Wednesday service, attended by both students and parishioners. In the Catholic tradition, the season of Lent offers a special opportunity to focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Throughout this sacred time, our students will explore how they can make a difference in the lives of others through their participation in the Caritas Australia, Project Compassion initiative.
Caritas Australia channels the funds raised to those in need, supporting a variety of humanitarian projects. During Lent, students will learn more about these initiatives through engaging video stories and lessons in Religious Education classes. These stories will highlight how our contributions help support those less fortunate than ourselves. Our teaching is grounded in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, they being; Human Dignity, Solidarity, Preferential Option for the Poor, Subsidiarity and Participation, the Common Good, and Care for Our Common Home. We will ensure that these concepts are shared in an age-appropriate manner for our primary school students.
To begin, we invite you to view the first video below, which demonstrates how Project Compassion has assisted a school in Samoa by providing students with access to clean drinking water.
There are three ways you can support our Project Compassion efforts this year:
Lent Week 1 Catholic Social Teaching focus principle:
Please join us after school next Friday afternoon for our Welcome Family Picnic. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to play some games and interact with each other in a social setting. It is also an opportunity for us to welcome new families to the community. The afternoon will run from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on the oval and playground. Please view details on the Parent Association page.
I encourage you to please read our student reports from their Summer Sports Gala day provided in this edition of the newsletter.
