Geelong Saints Hockey Club will be hosting free training sessions for teen and adult women to have a go and learn the basics of hockey. The sessions will be held over a four-week period starting from Wednesday March 12th at Stead Park, Corio.

The beginners sessions are supported by a Victorian Government “Change our Game” grant, with the aim of providing pathways for more rural, regional and culturally and linguistically diverse women to play sport.

The sessions are for new players and people who might have been out of the game for a while and need a bit of extra coaching before joining a team.

The new players will have specific coaches for the four sessions, will be supplied with equipment and provided with a light meal afterwards.  The focus for training will be on learning the basics, building fitness and learning the rules. The sessions will be run alongside the Saints women’s training to help build connections with the club.  It will be a pathway into playing the winter season, summer season, midweek masters or any of the various tournaments local players are involved in.

The first session is Wednesday March 12th, which coincides with Saint’s first training on the turf and Welcome BBQ for new players afterwards.  The next sessions are Wednesdays March 19th, 26th, April 2nd.
