3/4 Camp Weekaway
By Kiarah and Emmett
We had a big drive to camp, but first, we had to get the keys out because they were locked in the van. So some of the dads came to help us and we made our way to Weekaway. It took 2 hours to get there!! When we got there, we were shown to our room by our instructor, Lara. We slept in the Eagles Nest, which is the name of the house. The boys had a room together and the girls had a room together too. We had chocolate cupcakes and fruit for morning tea Emmett got to have a Banana Muffin, and then we went to the zip line. We had 10 turns on the zipline and sang "The Bear Necessities" on the way up the mountain. We got all the way up the mountain and put our harnesses on. They had the zipline at the top of the mountain. The top of the mountain was really high. Mr O went first on the zipline, followed by Lucy, Kiarah, Edmund, Braxton, and Emmett. It was really scary the first time because it's so high, but after a few times, it was fun. Then, we got to build huts and go canoeing.
That night, we got to go for a night walk with hot chocolate and played lots of charades, and Mr O told us scary stories.
The next day, we woke up and had lots to choose from for breakfast, it was all delicious, it was the best breakfast. We packed our bags ready to leave. Then we played laser tag and archery. After we finished with archery we had morning tea and then did the maze, we had our lunch and grabbed our bags to leave.
Our favourite things were the maze, laser tag, archery and the zipline.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, we are learning about living and non-living things.
The Foundation and Grade 1 students searched the playground for living and non-living things. We discussed each item and decided if something was living or non-living.
We then used our new knowledge to create our own definition of what a living thing is.
We checked our definition by discussing if this definition applies to all of the things that we said were living and non living from the playground.
We are also investigating how plants drink water. Did you know elephants use their trunk to drink?
5/6 Camp to Melbourne.
By Jenson and Olivia.
Wednesday the 9th
The 5/6 class met St. Liborius at the entrance of the Discovery Centre. We then boarded a train at 8:44. We got off the train at 10:44, and we met Doxa staff members so they could show us to our cabins. We then hopped on a train to get to a playground and eat lunch there. We then caught another train to the MCG and we went on a tour of the G. Our tour guide was Peter, he was the best. We then went down to the MCG sports museum. We got these sweatbands that collected information from our choices on the iPads on the sweatbands. Then we went to the Yarra Park playground for 45 minutes and then we caught a train to Melbourne Central. We had tea at Grill'd. After tea we had 30 minutes until we went bowling but first we looked around the shopping centre. Jenson got the highest score in bowling across both schools that wrapped up day 1.
Thursday the 10th
We woke up the next day and had breakfast. After breakfast, we went to ACMI and found out that it had been cancelled so we had a look at the Exhibition Centre and walked to the National Gallery of Victoria for 1 hour. We saw some street art along the way. We then had lunch at Alexander Gardens, then got a little tour of the Melbourne Gaol. We then walked from the Gaol to the Melbourne Museum. We then had tea at Blue Train and went to the Eureka Skydeck after tea, that wrapped up day 2.
Friday the 11th
On Friday morning we woke up and had some breakfast and then we caught 2 trains to the Zoo. We stored our luggage at the Southern Cross. We split up at the zoo and saw so many amazing animals and sea creatures we then caught the train home and that was our camp. On behalf of the Grade 5/6 class we would like to thank Miss Fenwick and Mr Fitzpatrick and all the staff at St. Liborius and the Doxa crew who always ensured we were safe during travelling [and can’t forget Peter]. We all had an amazing time.
