Year 3/4 Learning Reflection

Grade 3/4 students are at the end of the Extended Code unit. This week, students have been focusing on the /ar/ sound and its spelling combinations. Grade 3/4 students engage in different activities each week to reinforce their understanding of the sounds they have looked at.

In Reading, students got a preview of next term’s class serial read, Kensuke’s Kingdom. We looked at the title and blurb and made predictions about what the story might be about.

Grade 3 students have been learning to use renaming to solve addition problems. They used MAB blocks to consolidate this skill and visually represent each problem.

Grade 4 students in Maths, have been learning about decimal hundredths. They have been representing these using words, pictures, and fractions.

In Writing, students have learnt about the structure of an information report and have chosen an animal from one of the four habitats covered in our Unit of Work to write about. Students have published their reports both by hand and using Canva.

Our Information Reports are on display! If you're in Building B, drop by and see if you can learn a fact or two about an animal.

During handwriting, students focus on letter formation. In 4A, we practised handwriting by writing words that include the /ar/ sound.

Each week, we visit the library for students to explore new books, share recommendations, and find texts that challenge their thinking.

Grade 4 students had the chance to spend time with their Prep buddies at Kororoit Creek.
