Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, we are learning to write a Recount.

VOCABULARY

Recount - writing about something that has already happened.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to tell you their three favourite things that they did on the weekend.

Have your child to draw a picture of each of these events on a piece of paper, a scrap book or using technology.

Ask your child to verbalise the sentence they want to write about each of their events they have drawn and encourage them to use the words, ‘first’, ‘next’ and ‘last’ to sequence these events.

Things to remember when writing that good writers do:

-use finger spaces in between words

-use a full stop at the end of each sentence

-use a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence

-record all of the sounds they can hear in each word they write

Example:

On the weekend, first I went to the cinema with my mum and dad. Next I went to the swimming pool and went on the water slide. Last I had a sleep over at my nan and poppy's house. I had so much fun on the weekend!
