CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week in Reading, we are learning to ask questions as we read.
VOCABULARY
Questions - something we ask that we want to find out the answer to.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to select a text (it can be fiction or non fiction) from either their blue satchel or a book from home.
Before opening the text, engage in a discussion with your child about what they see, think and wonder based on the title and front/back covers.
Ask your child if they have any questions they may want to know the answers to about this book (encourage your child to ask questions that they don’t already know the answers to).
It might be a good idea to write a couple of these questions down so that you can refer to them later once you are reading the text with your child.
After your discussion, read through the text with your child, keeping in mind those questions that your child asked before reading, and see if your child can identify the answers to any of these questions as they are reading (we may or may not be able to answer all of the questions).
Your child may even ask more questions throughout reading the text together, encourage these.
