What have we been learning about in Physical Education this term?
Health
During the first two weeks of Term Four, students were thrilled to have Mr Muller back taking PE in the classroom focussing on health. In particular the effect that screen time can have on your physical and mental health and how you can balance screen time with a healthy and active lifestyle.
Foundation to Year Two students experienced both screen time and physical activity within the lesson and compared how their bodies and minds felt while completing both. They also brainstormed different activities that they could replace screen time with to create a balanced day.
Year 3 - 6 students reflected on their own personal screen time habits compared to the recommended daily amount that a person of their age should experience. They then tracked their own usage over a one week period while also establishing different activities that they would like to do that don't involve screens to create a balanced lifestyle.
Gymnastics
During Week 3 and Week 4 the students have tested their skills using a variety of different gymnastics apparatus hired through Gymnastics 4 Hire. All year levels have developed or improved skills in balances, parallel bars, mini trampolines, high bars, balance beam, cartwheels, handstands and forward rolls (and many more). It has been very impressive to see students improving so quickly in just a two week period and working so independently as they move around the many stations and activities.
Seaside District Athletics Carnival
A team of around 65 students from Years 4 - 6 headed to Duncan McKinnon on Tuesday the 17th of September to compete against the 7 other schools in our district. It was a perfect sunny day and our team was very enthusiastic to show off their skills. At the mid way point of the competition Black Rock was sitting around the middle of the pack on points however we came storming home with lots of great individual performances and some strong relay runs to finish the day in second position with 375 points. Hampton Primary were the winners overall with 399.5 points, a very close competition and a fantastic effort by our team. Thanks to the parents who came for their support and the teachers, Mr Badman, Ms Lancaster and Ms Tyrrell for their great organisation of the team.
Kingston Division Athletics Carnival

Southern Metro Regional Carnival
An amazing achievement by the 5 students who continued their journey to the regional level of competition.
Joben Krueger finished 3rd in his hurdles event, just pipped out of second place by one hundredth of a second. Gus Gadsden finished 4th in his hurdles race and Liam Gaudin 6th in his long jump event. Well done boys on your very successful athletics seasons.
Gemma Eaton came second in the triple jump and shot put while Vivienne Baker also finished second in her 1500m. We wish both of these girls all the best as they go on to compete at the State Championships.
Two teams were successful in winning their grand finals way back in August at MSAC and progressed through to the regional finals. In Week Two a mixed team of Year 3 + 4 students travelled to Frankston Basketball Stadium for their regional final. It was a tough day of competition with our best result being a 1 point loss to the eventually winners of the day. Thanks to the parents and Mr Muller for supporting the students to have an enjoyable day.
The girls team of Year 3 + 4 students will be heading to their regional final in Frankston on Monday the 11th of November. A big thankyou to Peter Growse for coaching them and the parents who are helping out as it falls on our school wide curriculum day. I love the dedication from the girls who are super keen to compete on their day off school.
