Principal's Address

Mr Greg Miller

As we reach the end of Term 3, this is the moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of our Year 12 students, the Class of 2024. I share here excerpts from my farewell message to them on Wednesday.

This year has truly highlighted the strength of unity among you.  Your bond and cohesion as a year group was already strong, but it was uniquely forged by the profoundly sad start of the year with the loss of your peers, Violet and Chkye. Your support for one another in the face of grief exemplified the deep bonds that tie you together, transforming heartache into resilience and hope.

Throughout your time at Chevalier, you have experienced a tapestry of highs and lows, triumphs and challenges. In my two years of witnessing your growth, I have been deeply moved by the legacy you leave behind. You have embraced the power of community, fostering inclusivity and connection, which has become your hallmark. Your creative spirit shone brightly during the Valedictory Dinner, where you embodied the theme of How to Train Your Dragon to life - much like the characters in that story, you faced your own challenges with courage and determination, reminding us all that the journey to self-discovery often requires us to train our own dragons.

As the school community gathered to celebrate you at the valedictory events, it was a bittersweet moment for all. We honoured your achievements and the incredible young women and men you have become. To the parents and carers of our graduates, your unwavering support has been a crucial part of this journey. Witnessing your child's growth from eager teenager to aspiring adult is a profound joy and privilege, and your commitment to Chevalier College has enriched our community.

The Class of 2024 has not only excelled academically but has also made a significant impact through extracurricular activities and community service initiatives. Your strong sense of camaraderie and inclusivity has fostered a lasting sense of belonging. As you prepare for life beyond these walls, remember that the challenges you’ve faced have only strengthened your character.

As you venture into the future, embrace every opportunity and remember that setbacks are merely stepping stones on your path to growth. Your education at Chevalier has given you a solid foundation, but never forget that learning is a lifelong journey. Continue to seek new knowledge and explore uncharted territories, all the while embodying the MSC values that will guide you and give you strength in your endeavours.
As you take the next steps in your journey, we wish you all purpose, joy and fulfillment in your aspirations. May you carry the heart-centred spirit of Chevalier with you wherever you go.  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your story. Congratulations, Class of 2024, and best wishes for a bright future ahead!

Our graduation ceremonies on Wednesday were full of reflection and celebration, made possible by many people. In particular I would like to acknowledge the parents who transformed McGrath Hall, it was truly spectacular. I really enjoyed spending time with the families of our Year 12 students and thank them for entrusting their child’s education to Chev.
