SCHOOL OF WONDER
What a brilliant but busy time we’ve had this term. Term 3 is often known as the term of events and this year has been no different. SOW children have celebrated olympians, Athletics Day, Book Week, learning mentor sport stars, PJ day, R U OK? Day, and favourite sports team colours day to name a few. To see children embrace the opportunity to put their personality on show and share it with us all is a real example of joy! We thank you, parents and carers, as we know costumes, outfits, and ‘touches of colour’ are only possible because of you. We value your continued efforts to bring the simple pleasures to our school.
We have had 10 weeks full of fun, festivities and experiences that continue to surprise us in the best possible way. The children in School of Wonder are really becoming the best version of themselves. We’ve witnessed some learn to read a book they couldn’t before, make a new friend, ask for help, show kindness and compassion, model how to do something, share a special skill, and every day make us so grateful for the place we call work.
One small reminder; Hats are required for term four. Please check this is in your child’s bag with their name on it.
We wish all our families a safe, rewarding and recharging school holidays and look forward to seeing you all on Monday 7 October.

SOW Assembly
The Year 1/2 LBB students lead the School of Wonder assembly which kicked off Week 9.
Students from Foundation, Year 1/2 and Year 3/4 spoke of and shared their current learning and enquiry topics through some fantastic writing pieces and fun videos they had put together.
A special congratulations and cheers went out to LSO Nicole and Learning Mentor Ellie who won their Katandra Kats grand final on Saturday!
Students were also joined by four of our current Year 11 students to present to our youngest cohort why they'd like to become a St Anne's College Captain in 2025. It was very inspiring for the SOW students to see the school leaders they can strive to become in the future.
Foundation
Foundation students are wrapping up this term's inquiry about all things sound, light and fairy tales. Students voted for their favourite fairytale and have been collaborating in small groups planning, creating and presenting their fairy tale puppet shows to their peers.
Students collaborated together in the planning process, discussing key events and characters from their chosen fairytale as well as how they could add their own twist on the original fairytale. They created a script for their play before jumping into the creative stage of their projects.
Students have incorporated sound effects and light into their puppet shows, drawing from new skills they have learnt in STEM and Performing Arts, for example creating music and sound on the app guitar band.
Year 1/2
Staff Art of the Week
This is an initiative following on from R U OK? Day - “Be Someone’s Sunshine”, where each staff member can create a piece of artwork to display.
Children participated in R U OK? Day activities last Thursday which included paper craft making sunflowers, rock art, kindness cards team building PE games. You can view photos of these in the R U OK? Day section of this il giornale.
The Year 1/2 children have learnt a new addition game called Wipe Off. During the game, children work with a partner and write the numbers 2-12 on a piece of paper each. They take it in turns to roll 2 dice and add the numbers together. They then cross off the corresponding number on their sheet. The first one to cross off all their numbers is the winner. To make it more challenging 3 diced can be used with the numbers 2-18.
Inquiry
Light and sound are produced by a range of sources and can be sensed. Light is a form of energy that travels in straight lines and allows us to see. Light can come from different sources like the sun, lamps, flashlights, fire. The children have engaged in a number of activities where they have been able to investigate how light produces shadows.
Jesus in the Scriptures
Children have been listening to stories about Jesus and looking at a variety of artworks depicting Jesus. They wrote a reflection of these and published this on BookCreator.
Year 3/4
Volunteers Needed: Simple Machines in Action!
Next term, our class will be exploring different types of forces and simple machines. We would love to invite any parents or family members who use simple machines in their workplace to come in and share their experiences with our children. Whether you work with levers, pulleys, inclined planes, or any other simple machine, your real-world insights would greatly enhance our learning.
If you're interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Amy on awheeler@sackialla.catholic.edu.au. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your support in enriching our children's education!
Mathematics
In this fun chance experiment learning about probability, students tested the statement: "if you whispered 'roll me a six' to the dice before rolling, you'd have a higher chance of rolling a six."
They rolled the dice, recorded and graphed the outcomes, and compared the results to their initial predictions to see if the statement held true!
STEM
Children in Year 3/4 have explored STEM using the LEGO Education SPIKE kits! During lessons, the children work in pairs to build exciting creations by following step-by-step instructions. They connect their models to motors via Bluetooth and bring them to life by coding movements. These activities encourage students to collaborate with their tub partner, developing both teamwork and problem-solving skills. It’s been an exciting hands-on way to learn and create!
Italian
Year 3/4 students learned how to introduce themselves, greet others, ask how someone was, and say goodbye in Italian.
Through fun activities and practice, they gained confidence in starting conversations, mastering key phrases in Italian.
Bravo!
Arriving at school
Please support our staff, and remember that drop off for children is from 8:30am. This is when staff are on duty. Prior to this any staff onsite are preparing for the day ahead, duty of care requirements mean children onsite require supervision and doing this takes staff away from their important preparation time.
