As we conclude Term 3, we take a moment to celebrate our 72 Year 12 students, reflecting on the incredible journey they have undertaken since starting Year 7 in 2019. Initially a cohort of over 110, this group has experienced significant changes, both in their numbers and in the world around them.
Dear Year 12 2024
When you first entered the school, it was a time of discovery—finding classrooms, adjusting to new uniforms, and hoping to be with friends. The world was different then; social media was emerging, mental health awareness was gaining traction, and trends like Fortnite captured the attention of many.
However, everything changed in 2020 when the pandemic transformed daily life. The terms "COVID," "lockdown," and "remote learning" became part of your vocabulary. Families navigated the challenges of working and studying from home while adapting to health restrictions. School events and Masses shifted to online formats, creating a unique set of challenges.
By 2022, the world began to reopen, yet it was clear that many aspects of life had changed. When you entered Year 11, you faced new academic paths and opportunities, including apprenticeships that many from your cohort eagerly pursued. Those remaining at Marian had to quickly adapt and focus on their future.
As you stand on the brink of graduation, it’s important to reflect on what you’ve learned. You carry with you the love and support of the staff, the lessons of resilience and courage learned through adversity, and the relationships that have shaped your high school experience. Remember, while friendships will evolve, the bonds you’ve formed are strong and lasting.
Each of you is unique and cherished, embodying the essence of our community. The central aim of our College is to deepen your relationship with your faith, which remains a guiding light, especially during challenging times. As you prepare to embark on new journeys, and study for those HSC exams, remember that you are not alone; you have a supportive community behind you.
In closing, I extend heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to your education—teachers, staff, and families. Your accomplishments reflect the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Congratulations, Year 12!
As you move forward, embrace the future with confidence and faith, knowing that you are equipped to navigate whatever comes next.
I am delighted to announce that the 2025 College Captains are:
