Mission & Faith Life

Sporting Colours Day

As a Catholic school, part of our mission is outreach and service. Since 2023, our College has donated helpful items to John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School – a school located in a small Aboriginal Community in Mulan, in Western Australia's east Kimberley. Supporting remote schools through Sporting Colours Day, allows us to extend our charism beyond our own community, fostering solidarity, and hope for students in one of Western Australia's most isolated regions.

On Sporting Colours Day:

  • Students are to come to school dressed in their favourite sporting team jerseys or colours with their College sport shorts and sneakers.
  • Students are invited to bring in a GOLD COIN DONATION and wear this free dress.
  • Students are also invited to donate a quality pair of 2nd hand shoes/sneakers OR a new pair of socks.

Gold coin donations will go towards the upkeep of the John Pujajangka-Piyirn Catholic School prayer space. Shoe and sock donations will go directly to the students from this school and to their local community. Donations can be given to Learning Space Teachers and PCG Teachers during Week 10.

Year 9 Retreat

In Week 8, the Year 9 students participated in a retreat day led by Faith Retreats. The theme for the retreat was ‘Respectful Relationships,’ aligning with the Religious Education curriculum for this term.

On this retreat, the students were invited to reflect upon themes such as personal needs in relationships, loving others in a Christ-like manner and navigating challenging social pressures. Interesting talks were given throughout the day, covering topics including steps for healthy relationships, forgiveness, living authentically, and God's personal love for us. The students enjoyed a fun day together and participated in group activities and games with positive and joyful attitudes.

Thank you to Karl from Faith Retreats for helping to make the day fun and meaningful for our students. Thank you to Mrs McLaughlin, Mr Johns and Mrs Osborne for supporting our students during the retreat and helping to provide a vital space for our students' faith formation.

Vincent House Day & Liturgy

Vincent House Day - Justice and Service

(Feast Day: 27 September)

Today, Friday 13th September, Vincent House celebrated the Feast Day of St Vincent. All students across the college participated in House Day team spirit building activities and Vincent House shared a Liturgy together and then a BBQ lunch.

St. Vincent was born in 1581 in France and was a Catholic priest renowned for his deep commitment to the service of the poor. Raised in a humble peasant family, Vincent's early life was marked by a strong sense of faith and a desire to serve. After studying for the priesthood and being ordained, he initially focused on his pastoral duties. However, his life took a transformative turn when he was inspired to dedicate himself entirely to the plight of the impoverished. In 1617, he founded the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, to evangelise and aid the needy in rural areas.

St Vincent’s approach was grounded in charity and practical service, making him a key figure in the development of modern social outreach and charitable organisations.

His legacy lives on through various institutions and initiatives named in his honour, St Vincent De Paul, reflecting his profound impact on the Catholic Church’s mission of service to the poor.

Merciful God,

your son Jesus preached the good news to the poor.

May our hearts be filled with compassion

as we strive to follow his example of serving those in need.

Help us to recognise Christ in others

and inspire us to be the hand of love and charity.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross

Feast Day: 14 September

The Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross commemorates the discovery of the cross of Jesus by St. Helena, mother of the Emperor Constantine, the Roman emperor who legalised Christianity with the Edict of Milan in 313 AD and played a key role in the spread of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.

Prayer

Bless us who find salvation

In the cross of Christ;

May we always recognise his glory

In the weak, suffering and condemned of the world.

We ask this through Christ, crucified and exalted,

who is Lord forever and ever.

Amen.

Girls' Faith Club @ Schoenstatt Shrine

Faith and fun afternoons for girls aged 12-17 (senior members), as well as girls aged 8-11 (junior members) are held every two months. Growing in relationship with God and one another, we have Mary, the Mother of God, as our model and guide to become more Christ-like in our everyday lives.

We support one another on the journey of life through interesting discussions about life and faith issues, as well as activities that help us to serve others and grow closer together. In addition, we’ll also have mother-daughter sessions throughout the year, as well as social activities for senior members. Our 2024 dates are: Sundays 15 September and 24 November, between 1pm and 3pm.

Venue: Schoenstatt Shrine, 9 Talus Drive, Mount Richon.

Pope Francis' Monthly Prayer Intention

In September, we pray for the cry of the Earth.

We pray that each one of us will hear and take to heart the cry of the Earth and of victims of natural disasters and climactic change, and that all will undertake to personally care for the world in which we live.
