Grade  5 Report

Exploring Data, Space, and more!

Data and Statistics Adventures

Our Grade 5 mathematicians have been hard at work exploring the fascinating world of data and statistics. They started by analysing Olympic medal tally data, constructing impressive graphs to visualise the achievements of athletes from around the globe. They didn’t stop there - our budding statisticians also examined weather patterns from various parts of the world, creating graphs to compare and contrast different climates.

In a hands-on investigation activity ‘Pencil Rollers’, students rolled pencils to score points, recorded their results, and then used this data to create their own graphs. They also answered questions about their findings, further developing their analytical skills and gaining a deeper understanding of how to interpret data.

Journey Through Space

In science, Grade 5 students have been on an exciting journey through the universe! Their studies have taken them from our own planet to the far reaches of our galaxy. Students kicked off the unit with a visit to the Planetarium at Scienceworks, where they learned about the presence of water in our galaxy. They have also been exploring the differences between jovian (gas giant) and terrestrial (rocky) planets in class.

The enthusiasm for space exploration is palpable as students prepare for their upcoming Speaking and Listening task. They’ll be presenting their findings and sharing their knowledge about space, demonstrating their understanding of celestial bodies and the broader universe.

It’s been an exhilarating time in Grade 5, filled with learning, exploration, and discovery. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see their presentations!
