Mathematics

The annual Australian Mathematics Competiton was held early during the third term with over 350 students participating from Year 7 to Year 10. The competition challenges students problem solving and analytical skills in a variety of mathematical concepts. This year we had 50 students achieve a Distinction score which placed them in the top 20% of participants and 3 students receive a High Distinction which placed them in the top 3% of the competition. A huge congratulations to all students!

As the pressure of Term 4 mounts with exams approaching many students have been utilising the additional tutoring support at the college, attending sessions in the library during lunchtimes and afterschool. We would also like to wish our VCE Mathematics students all the best in their upcoming exams which are due to commence throughout late October and continue through November.

This term we were lucky to have welcomed Rosalind Lee to the college who will be working with the Mathematics Faculty for four weeks. Rosalind is a teacher from Singapore who expressed interest in learning and collaborating with us at Mazenod. We have shared the similarities and discussed differences between the education systems and we have been extremely impressed by her knowledge in creating digital resources through Desmos software. We hope this relationship will continue in the future and both schools can reap the benefits of this collaboration.

All the best for the remainder of the year!
