Junior School
Term 4 Assessments
As we move further into the final term of the year, our Junior School students will be asked to complete various assessments as we gauge their knowledge, skills and understanding of key concepts learnt in class. The data gathered from these assessments will not only contribute to the Semester 2 reporting process but will also be helpful in assisting with student class placements for 2024. Students are reminded of the need to check the ‘assessment schedule’ document for this semester which is located on CANVAS. All boys are also encouraged to remember several strategies which will support their overall preparation for the assessments they will need to complete.
Time Management: create a daily or weekly schedule that allocates appropriate time for different activities and commitments to be completed, as effective time management is key to reducing stress levels.
Review and Practice: regular revision and review of specific questions or content that has already been covered in class is crucial to solidifying understanding and boosting confidence.
Healthy Lifestyle: a well-balanced diet, adequate sleep, and regular exercise all contribute to improved cognitive function and overall wellbeing.
Seeking Help: students should not hesitate to reach out to their teachers for assistance if they would like guidance in a particular area or feedback about how to further improve.
As the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel draws ever closer, signalling the end of the 2023 school year, please continue to engage with your son about his schooling experience, encourage him to explore his interests, and remind him of the resources available at school to help him succeed.
We are grateful to all parents/carers for your continued support, and we look forward to witnessing the growth and achievements of our Junior School boys during the remaining weeks of the year.
2023 Student Leadership
In a few short months, our current Year 5 cohort will be the new leaders of the Junior School. While every single student will always have a leadership role to play through their daily actions, only a select number of students will ultimately be elected to represent the student leadership team itself.
Many boys will choose to self-nominate for one of the specific leadership roles on offer such as the Junior School Captain, or one of two Junior School Vice Captain positions. Students may also be selected as a House Captain or House Vice Captain across our six houses at the College.
Our current Year 6 boys will also have the opportunity to nominate for a Student Ambassador leadership role in 2024 as they soon begin the next stage of their educational journey as a member of the Year 7 cohort.
As a staff, we are very proud of the many achievements, qualities and attributes that each student has in the Junior School, and we recognise the reality that many wonderful candidates will unfortunately miss out on an elected leadership position in 2024. As such, it is important that we have this conversation with those boys who are intending to nominate for a leadership position and also discuss the joy that can come from sharing in others’ achievements and successes. We certainly encourage our families to have similar conversations at home, keeping the discussions centred on the important responsibility that every boy has in representing and leading by example as a valued member of our College community.
Year 6 Camp Day
Please note that all Year 6 parents/carers have been sent a letter via email earlier this week outlining relevant information regarding the upcoming Year 6 camp day to Somerset on Monday 6 November. All documentation for this experience must be completed by Monday next week (30 October), so that appropriate arrangements can be made to cater for every student.
We are delighted to be able to offer this unique single day camp experience to our current Year 6 cohort, especially as they did not get to participate in a sport and recreation style camp in Year 5 last year, given this opportunity only commenced for students in 2023. From next year onwards, both our Year 5 and Year 6 cohorts will have their own distinctive camp experience early in the year, targeted towards specific educational and social aims which all boys will no doubt benefit from.
