Garden and Environment News

While we were all enjoying our recent term break, members of the Rowville Men’s Shed were working hard for us, preparing a frame, posts and mounting for our beautiful new signage on our entry pathway at school.

This year, we gratefully received a grant to support our learning about our school’s unique location on lands of the Wurundjeri and Bunurong Peoples of the Kulin Nation. The grant enabled us to engage Djirri Djirri Dancers, a group of Wurundjeri women to educate staff about important aspects of culture. They also presented traditional dances to all students at a school assembly late in Term Two. Additionally, we purchased a beautiful design from Indigenous artists at Kinya Lerrk, to present our school’s Acknowledgement of Country.

We would like to thank the members of the Rowville men’s shed for their beautifully constructed timber frame and posts and for their careful installation. Thanks also to our local Bunnings store for their support with donation of materials for this project.

Our Years’ One and Two students are especially excited to see ongoing action to support their How the World Works Inquiry into ‘Who Came Before’, learning about the history, geography, and sustainability practices of the First Australian People.
