Last term, the Year 5s and 6s collaborated for our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry. The transdisciplinary theme was Aesthetic and environmental considerations influence design now and for the future. 

 

The students selected an area of interest and were grouped accordingly. Using the Design Thinking Process, students moved through different parts of the cycle: Empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test to create something representing an action that could be taken to mitigate their issue.

 

Students were encouraged to display the learner profile attributes of Risk Taker, Thinker and Open-minded. We ended the unit with a gallery walk where the students presented their prototypes to their peers and teachers. They did an excellent job in such a short amount of time!
